Marek Zvolanek was born in 1974 in Prague. He started playing trumpet at seven in the Music School of Prague and continued his studies at the Conservatory under the tutelage of Professor Antonin Vaigl. He drew attention to himself early and often throughout his studies with his skill and early successes. He decided to expand his talent by studying with well know European luminaries such as Professor Hans Ganch of the Salzburg Mozarteum and Konradin Groth of the Berlin Music Academy. At 18, Mr. Zvolanek joined the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, which at that time was conducted by Václav Neumann. He repeatedly featured as a soloist on important stages and at internationally recognized events such as the Prague Spring, Smetana Litomysl, and Janacek May. He has performed with Prague Symphony Orchestra, Prague Chamber Orchestra, Suk Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, Hradec Kralove Philharmonic Orchestra, Bohuslav Martin Philharmonic Orchestra, Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra Olomouc, Talich Chamber Orchestra, NeueLausitzer Philharmonie and more. Since 2006 he has been a member of the prestigious Ten of the Best, which is comprised of ten world class trumpeters selected from across the globe. In 2004 he led a masterclass in Osaka, Japan. That same year Mr Zvolanek participated in the Christmas concert broadcast live by Euroradio Ebu. He has been recorded on many albums. A few examples are Concerto Number 2 (1997) for the U.S. label Crystal records, and a CD (2002) which he made with the Prague Brass Soloists ensemble of which he had been a member since 1997. His solo activity is best represented by the disk Baroque Concert (2003), released on the classic label Bohemia Cube including Zvolanek’s performances of M. Haydn and F.X. Richter. To this day Baroque Concert remains Bohemia Cube’s best-selling album. A review at the time stated of Zvolanek’s performance "All this creates an almost perfect backdrop for an extraordinary listening experience even in a global comparison… I think with his Baroque Concerto CD, M. Zvolánek has a great chance to enhance musical awareness on an international scale" – Harmonie, January, 2007. In 1998 he began to work with the Smecky music studio to record music for films, documentaries, and more recently computer games. Today, Mr. Zvolanek has contributed to the soundtracks and scores of around 250 films and TV series internationally. He regularly works with world renowned directors such as George Lucas, David Lynch, Roman Polanski, Tom Cruise, Silvester Stallone, Rachel Portman, Elmer Bernstain, Carl Davis and many others. New Horizons Radio Symphony Orchestra. The first insight promises much. VÍT DVOŘÁK, 16. 10. 2014 20:30 This is a highly enjoyable recital, well recorded, of some relatively unusual repertoire ... Beautiful, poised ... Zvolanek’s playing is beyond reproach.
